A client with an extensive background in the visual arts came in looking for guidance in streamlining her vision. From early meetings it became evident that this couple is looking for a warm and inviting contemporary space with an eclectic industrial vibe where they can enjoy their retirement and host company. Through process of multiple meetings, the designer helped the couple to define their vision for their space, to finalize the layout and to narrow down the aesthetic which would elicit a sense of comfort and excitement at the same time.

Taking the cabinetry off the window allowed the couple to replace the windows, flooding the space with natural light and opening it up to the beautiful backyard views. Tall cabinetry fulfills the storage requirements while a large island gives plenty of counter space for the couple to cook at the same time.

Visually, this kitchen artfully combines many different textures, colors and finishes while maintaining an overall balanced aesthetic. Flat slab perimeter cabinetry in a wood grain is offset by an elegant transitional shaker-style island in dark wood stain. Further, two upper cabinets flanking the hood are in a glossy taupe gray with a lacquer finish.

The study in textures continues with the countertop finish choices. Concrete-look quartz is used for the perimeter, while the island allows for an opportunity to showcase a beautiful slab of Statuario quartz with beautiful soft veining. To match the counter, concrete tile was selected, providing a pleasing contrast as a backdrop for stainless hood and stainless floating shelves. As an accent piece, black industrial pendants finish off the space.

Resulting space feels cohesive and unified with plenty of visual interest and exciting details for the couple to enjoy for years to come.
